i) Members of NATO and Warsaw Pact are mentioned below:
• NATO members: Britain, France, Belgium, West Germany, Italy, Norway, Denmark, Portugal, Spain, Greece, Netherland and Turkey.
• Warsaw Pact members: East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Poland and USSR.
ii) NATO came into existence in April 1949 and Warsaw Pact was created in 1955.
iii) The object of the Warsaw Pact was to counter NATO’s forces in Europe.
iv) The main clause of NATO was it was an association of twelve states which declared that armed attack on any one of them in Europe or North America would be regarded as an attack on all of them. Each of these states would be obliged to help each other.
8.Carefully look at and study the political map of the Commonwealth Independent States, 1997. Answer all the questions given below it:
1. Which country is having the largest area in the Map? When was the Soviet Union disintegrated?
2. Write the names of any four Central Asian independent states shown in the map.
3. Write the names of those two states or countries which have encircled Arab Sea in the map?
4. Write the names of the capitals of the following countries:
